His First Tinkle

After months of flushing the toilet, handing mommy toilet paper, and watching us go pee (sorry for the visual)....Ethan went pee-pee in the toilet for the 1st time. Ethan is officially a big boy! I am so, so proud of him. Now the hard work begins.

I would love some advice because this is my first kid to train. Hopefully Holland will follow in his footsteps. Way to go Little Brother!

Never put a diaper back on. I know it will be tuff cleaning up after him, but thats how he'll get it! Your not going to do two at a time? LOL. GOOD LUCK! You'll do great. LOts of praise. A treat bag works good. Things like small toys to give him (like cars). Whenever he goes in the toliet give him a toy from the treat bag and then when he has an accident take the toy and put it back in the bag. Hmm, I think thats it. Sticker charts are good and candy on top of the toliet. So he gets a candy everytime he uses the toliet. Hey I've only trained one kid so I'm no expert. GOOD JOB ETHAN!

That is so exciting! I am so ready for Caleb to be trained. He, however, is not. Good luck! As for advice...what Sarah said :) We got Josh a gumball machine and toys to bribe, er, encourage him. He still calls one of his toys his "Poop Car" because that is how he earned it. :)

I think Sarah is right that you cant put a diaper back on. There will be many accidents. But it is hard for them to learn. I hate little tiolets. I had a really bad experiance and it ended with a tiolet in the car because that is the only place she would pee. Good luck great job!

Good luck, and hopefully you will have advice for me. Noah is starting to show signs that he is ready and he has a potty chair and he has used it a few times, but I haven't pushed the training since he is only 21 months. I would just like to know when to start since he tells me when he wets his diaper, takes toys to go potty and talks about mom using the potty, but when I ask if he needs to use the potty the answer is no, no, NO.

Good luck, and share tips PLEASE

Good luck with the potty training...it is so hard. But if he is ready, it will be so much easier. Well, I only have experience with one, and he was 3 1/2 when he started. By the way, I figured out the blog thing, thanks for your help. Seriously, i am such a dork...

We used a sticker chart for Maddox (I haven't even attempted to potty train Griffy yet). One down side to potty training - you have to know where every public restroom is and you have to get there FAST!
Best of luck!

WOOHOO... Brook was late. she was almost 3 before she was trained, but emma is already done! she's 2 and 5 months and is all the way done, even at nights! and it's because we pushed and pushed brook and with emma we did what you did, just let her see and know what was going on and once she got it, she got it, she went and we did the Dr Phil PEEPEE IN THE POTTY dance and jumped and sang and gave her a Hershey's kiss and a sticker!!! we got special big girl panties and threw the diapers in the garbage and we wrapped the panties like presents so she would get a new pair EVERYTIME she went poopoo in the potty and get to unwrap a new pair!!! (just for the first few weeks. but when you're training you need 20 pairs! trust me!) i've only trained 2 but the second one was so easy because like (sarah said) we NEVER put a diaper back on. it's going to be tricky and messy for the first few days but they will get the hang of it, it does NOT last forever! i promise!!! really after 2 weeks you're done! it's that easy just don't give up, hang in there, it's time consuming but so rewarding for them and your pocket book. it really is a HUGE milestone fro them to get passed, once they are out of diapers it's amazing to see the things they can do! honestly, it's like something clicks in their cute little brains that says, i can do anything!!! it's a little rough, but you can do it... maybe do pull-ups at night for a month or two until they have the days mastered... then start with not drinking after 7 except little sips and no diapers, that usually only takes a few days too!!! you can do it, the kids get so excited to go to the bathrooms at stores and eating out, they will for sure tell you they need to go because they get a special trip with mom or dad and they get treats. i hope this helps! i just gave my friend all the same advice 2 weeks ago today and her boy is DONE too!!! yay for the RAYS!!! :o) good luck... i'll pray for ya ALL... Holland will follow shortly once she sees all the dancing and singing!!! PEEPEE in the POTTY, PEEPEE in the POTTY!!! woohoo!!! Love Nissa

Our son was so against potty training, we ended up instigating a Shock and Awe campaign... that is, we took away the diapers cold turkey and I cleaned up a lot of accidents. Thankfully, he started to get the picture within about 3 days and warmed up to the potty. We had a big prize for him (a toy construction vehicle that sat on our mantle for 3 months waiting for him to use the potty). After that, I encouraged with stickers and M&Ms, but those only worked after the Shock and Awe campaign.

Every child is so different. You'll find what motivates your little ones and then you'll be all set. Good luck!

Just know that it is amazing that he is even interested in the potty before his 3rd birthday... and especially before his sister. Usually, boys take FOREVER to potty train.

Good for Ethan! I have no advice as I have not been down that road. But, if you learn anything along the way, pass it along as we will be doing the same thing soon.
