My husband has been using Tom's of Maine deodorant for months. He changed from his normal deodorant to this organic version, after reading about the connection between aluminum in deodorant and Alzheimer's Disease. I did not notice any changes in his "scent" and thought I should change too. I am all about being health conscious.
So I have made the switch to a nice lavendar version. I have been wearing it for a week now. But I must admit, I am stinky. I smell like a ride at Disneyland. I am not sure what to do. Maybe I have enlarged sweat glands or maybe that is normal when you don't use an Anti-perspirant.
I am a little grossed out.
Now I am sure you are too.
Has anyone else made the switch to Tom's? Am I alone here?

We stopped using antipersperants a long time ago for that very reason, but there are more deodorants you can find that are aluminum free than just Tom's. (I don't think there are any aluminum-free antipersperants). We use Arm & Hammer and since I don't want to go upstairs and check to be sure, I'm just going to say I'm pretty sure it's aluminum free. We use antipersperant on days when it's super important, like a job interview or important meeting or something, but the deoderant does fine for both of us so far. If I were you, I'd just try a different kind before I gave up. I've been stinky before when I've used other kinds. Baking soda does a good job at deodorizing a fishy fridge, so why not underarms?
Well, I'll be ... I'd forgotten about the aluminum connections. But I am sweater by nature - particularly my left pit. Maybe I could just use it on that pit?
Good luck. I'd heard good things about Tom's, but now I'm not so sure.
UGH I hate the antipersperant/ deoderant debate! I am definitely a sweater and therefore keep using the kind with aluminum. I currently like the Secret Clinical deoderant b/c it's powerful and it doesn't smell like baby powder. I'm sorry you're feeling stinky on the Tom's brand...
Okay, I've never tried Tom's so I can't say much. But I haven't checked your blog for a while and have had fun catching up. Congrats to Ryan on Kellogg. Those YW are still sooo cute and I love the kiddies fourth of July outfits. You guys are such a cute family!
My Mom thought that too when we were growing up. We all used Tom's. I think it was about 10 years ago we all realized we stunk in bad situations and found some article debunking the whole thing. I will look for the article. In the mean time, I would rather be not stinky :)
Back in the day, I was a law clerk for a large consumer products company. I spent my summer in Antiperspirant/Deodorants. Man, I learned a lot about sweat.
If it's any consolation, I think those aluminum stories are myths. But best of luck as you seek to be less stinky.
O.K., you did stink last night, I was just trying to be kind.:) Last night was great, it is always fun to be with any member of the HOPS. But, I can understand why being with me would be the best! You are my favorite right now too!!! Good luck with your stinky pits; maybe you can tap that out???
I've switched and I don't like it because I seem to sweat more. I haven't noticed if I stink, and really hope I don't. I am switching back to my normal deodorant because why put something on that doesn't seem to work. :)
Rachel if you are stinky please don't come into corporate while you are in town. I would much prefer to speak with you over the phone until you have the stink under control! Just kidding you can come in just don't get too close. :)
Okay, so did your title come from The Wonder Pets? Because I heard that song in my head when I read it. Just wondering.
I shower twice a day most days and so does my husband. We also made the switch just to be safer! WE actually use the Old Spice without the anti and I smell like a freshly showered man haha. I guess this is better than smelling like a hard working man right.
